Port of Scrabster

About Scrabster, Guide and Tourist Attractions
(Scrabster, Caithness, Scotland, UK)

Scrabster is simply the ferry port that feeds the Outer Orkney Isles and doesn't offer much from a tourist's point of view. The nearby town of Thurso, however, is the main attraction.

Scotland's most northerly town boasts a fair amount of history and outstanding views of the ocean.

What to do in Scrabster

Thurso is a fine place to stay for a few days, with easy access to John O'Groats, the most northerly point of the UK mainland. Many people also visit Thurso as a point of departure for driving the north and northwest scenic coasts via the towns of Durness and Ullapool. Surfing is also now a big attraction in Thurso and championships are often held here.

Tourist Attractions

Attractions in and around Thurso town include the ancient Thurso Castle and Lady Janet's seat (Thurso East) and the popular Mill Theatre to the south of town. Thurso is well equipped with facilities, with hotels, a camping site, supermarkets, shops, several traditional pubs and a tourist information centre in the centre of town. Inverness, lying about 160 km / 100 miles to the south, is the nearest city to Thurso.
